Jon interviews the former White
House Press Secretary (2003-2006).
Jon: You mention in the book that this was not willful deception. How
is that not willful deception?
McClellan: Well, what happens is that this becomes part of the culture
in Washington and this is the way both parties behave...
Jon: If somebody says to you "this is going to cost 200 million
dollars" and you say "yeah, don't tell them that". Just tell them "it
will pay by itself with oil"...so that is a lie...that they knew.
McClellan: Well I dont know. Paul Wolfowitz was one of the
ones who said that, the Deputy Secretary of Defense, or maybe he really
beleive it or convince himself I dont know.
Jon: Somebody made a willful decision "dont talk about the price
because that truth....Isn't that the very definition of deception?
